Why Recall Searle Turton?

There are a few reasons, primarily because who he is presenting himself as now is not the guy we thought we elected. Here is a list of reasons we feel Minister Turton is falling down on the job:

  • Failure to communicate
Many constituents report unanswered emails or calls, or receiving generic, non-responsive replies when communication does occur.

  • Prioritizing the party line over constituents
Constituents have shared that they contacted Minister Turton to express their views, yet feel those concerns were not represented in his actions or votes.

  • Changes in position on LGBTQIA+ rights
In 2019, Minister Turton was publicly seen supporting LGBTQIA+ communities. Since then, his voting record and public positions have led many constituents to feel misrepresented.

  • Willingness to invoke the notwithstanding clause
For many constituents, this issue was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The notwithstanding clause is an extraordinary legislative tool intended to be used sparingly. Minister Turton has supported its use in multiple instances, including:

    • Voting to apply it to Bill 2, forcing teachers back to work and limiting their collective bargaining rights.

    • Voting to apply it to Bill 9 (covering Bills 26, 27, and 29), affecting privacy and access to healthcare for trans youth.

IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT:

•Public Education

•Universal Healthcare

•Keeping CPP

•Disability Rights

•LGBTQ+ Rights

•Keeping the RCMP

•Protecting Clean Water

Then you need to consider signing.

These are all in the crosshairs of Danielle Smith, and Searle has a long record of supporting her agenda with his vote.  You can see Searle's legislative voting record here:

Reading documents on the legislative website can be confusing.  You can also look up specific bills by date, and read transcripts (Hansard) here:

If you believe your MLA should prioritize listening to constituents and representing their concerns—regardless of party—and that extraordinary powers like the notwithstanding clause should be used with restraint, we encourage you to come out and sign the petition.
